115 Erickson Hall
Michigan State University
Water and Coffee will be served. You are welcome to bring your own lunch.
The context for the work is transitioning the Connected Mathematics, an established
problem-based curriculum, to a digital environment. In CMP, mathematical understandings are embedded in tasks which are carefully sequenced to build deep understanding of important mathematical ideas. In this session, we report on curriculum research and development efforts to leverage digital technologies to support student collaboration and enhance students’ productive disciplinary engagement in mathematics. Bring a laptop to partake in the collaborative environment.
Elizabeth Phillips: Betty’s interests are in the teaching and learning of mathematics with a special interest in algebra. In addition to authoring numerous papers and books, she is an author of the Connected Mathematics Project curriculum and the PI on two NSF-funded design research projects.
AJ Edson: A.J. is an assistant professor of mathematics education. His research focuses on secondary school mathematics curriculum design and development. Currently, he works on research, development grants, and activities related to the Connected Mathematics Project.
Co-Integrate is a speaker series, jointly sponsored by the CREATE for STEM Institute and the Program in Mathematics Education, designed to support internal networking among colleagues in the College of Natural Science, College of Education, and K-12 school partners interested in the teaching and learning of mathematics in K-16 settings. This monthly series features talks by MSU faculty and graduate students who are working on projects to improve math teaching and learning at MSU and in Michigan more broadly.
The Co-Integrate Seminar Series welcomes local K-12 teachers and administrators to all of its events. Reimbursement for on-campus parking will be provided for K-12 school staff attendees - be sure to ask for an envelope before you leave the event!
