MSU at MAA MathFest 2018
Luke Tunstall and Becky Matz will present at the MAA (Mathematical Association of America) MathFest 2018 in Denver this week. The conference is Wednesday, August 1 to Saturday, August 4 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.
Luke (Program in Mathematics Education) and Becky (Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology) will be sharing their recent work on Quantitative Literacy courses at MSU in their presentation titled, “Meeting students where they are: Supplemental instruction in large-scale quantitative literacy courses”. In particular, they will report their analyses of students’ course grades and persistence from the course, which call attention to a need for improving instructional approaches to help students bridge gaps in their requisite skills. Their study will be presented in the MAA Contributed Paper Session “Ready or Not: Corequisite Courses and Just-in-Time Review” on Friday, August 3, at 4:00 pm in Governor’s Square 17, Plaza Building.
MAA MathFest presents the latest in mathematical research and education each summer from the Mathematical Association of America, the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students, and enthusiasts. More details about the conference can be found on the conference website.
