Davis Receives Award in Justice and Equity Pedagogy

C. Davis receiving award This spring, PRIME PhD student C. Davis received one of the MSU College of Education Distinguished Graduate Student Awards in Justice and Equity Pedagogy. This is an annual recognition that started in 2024, for graduate students who demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion into their teaching practices, research, and professional engagement. It aims to recognize and support the contributions of graduate students who often go unrecognized for their impact.

A ceremony was held on April 29, 2026, in Erickson Hall to celebrate their incredible work. They were awarded a certificate and $1,000. This award is funded by the College’s Office for Inclusive Excellence and Impact and Community Partnerships as well as the MSU Graduate School.

The committee, which consisted of the College of Education Assistant Professors Dr. Scott Farver, Dr. Alexandra Allweiss, Dr. Terrance Burgess, as well as Academic Specialist Dr. Mary Patillo-Dunn, noted to Davis they were “impressed with your commitments to centering justice and equity in your teaching and appreciate the work you are doing for our students here in the College of Education at MSU!”

C. Davis with presenter Vroom and Rudow

PRIME faculty member Dr. Kristen Vroom shared, “Davis is an outstanding instructor. Davis consistently sought feedback and reflected thoughtfully on how to best support their students – whether through building an inclusive and caring classroom community, making thoughtful choices about content, or ensuring clarity in their explanations. Davis’s warmth and authenticity are evident in their classroom presence, and their openness as a proudly visible queer mathematician sends powerful messages about who can belong in mathematics and STEM more broadly.”

Congratulations on being selected for this important award, Davis! Your work is inspiring!
