MSU at 2026 AMTE Conference

AMTE logo for 2026 conferenceThe 30th Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) Annual Conference is being hosted at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront in Portland, Oregon from February 5th-7th, 2026.

As the largest professional organization devoted to the improvement of mathematics teacher education, AMTE brings together a dynamic community of educators, researchers, and leaders to explore innovative practices, share impactful research, and foster meaningful connections. AMTE’s mission is to promote excellence in mathematics teacher education through effective preparation, meaningful professional development, and strong advocacy for policies that support equitable mathematics teaching and learning. The AMTE 2026 Annual Conference offers engaging sessions and collaborative opportunities to advance this mission, and the chance to experience the unique culture of Portland.

The AMTE annual conference is a cornerstone for fostering collaboration, growth, and the exchange of ideas among mathematics teacher educators and educational partners. Their goal is to create an inclusive and enriching environment that maximizes opportunities for sharing, learning, and connecting while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the AMTE community. To ensure broader participation and allow for meaningful engagement in the sessions and discussions, a virtual option will also be available to make the conference accessible to those unable to attend in person. The AMTE conference represents more than just a single event—it’s a dynamic space where a growing and evolving community of educators come together to exchange ideas, envision new approaches, collaborate on potential solutions, and inspire one another to serve and advance the needs of our communities through mathematics education.

MSU faculty and graduate students presenting research at this year’s conference include Tonya Bartell, Kristen Bieda, AJ Edson, Ashley Fabry, Ahmad Kohar, Sadrack Pagiling, Yvonne Slanger-Grant, Kristen Vroom, and Samantha Wald.

For PhD students Ashley Fabry and Sadrack Pagiling, this is their first time presenting at AMTE. Ashley is presenting her practicum research titled, “Exploring Preservice Secondary Mathematics Teachers’ Identity for Supporting Quantitative Literacy” and Sadrack is eagerly presenting his paper entitled “Secondary Mathematics Teachers’ Knowledge of Algebra for Teaching: A Literature Review". For Samantha Wald, this will be her second year attending the conference, and her first time at AMTE with a solo presentation of her work. “I am extremely excited! I loved this conference last year!”, Wald exclaims.
