Cruciani Receives COGS Conference Award
Maria Cruciani, first year mathematics education doctoral student, was awarded first place in oral presentations at the 16th Annual Graduate Academic Conference (GAC) on Saturday, March 9, 2024. The conference was hosted by the MSU Council of Graduate Students (COGS) at the MSU Union. The theme this year was Growing Knowledge, Connecting Communities, and Inspiring Innovation.
Cruciani's presentation was titled Authentic Data Explorations: Investigating the Normal Distribution through Comparative Rent Data.
"This presentation was a wonderful opportunity to share some of the work I have been doing on the NSF-funded project GTAs-LEAD with Dr. Jennifer Green at Michigan State and Drs. Justin Post and Sunghwan Byun at North Carolina State University," remarked Cruciani. "As a part of this project, we have developed activities that use authentic data to explore statistical concepts in contexts that are meaningful to students' lives."
She continued, "I am passionate about the work this project is doing to impact the
pedagogical practices and curricular materials employed in introductory statistics
classes and was excited for this valuable opportunity to share our work!"
The GAC 2024 Committee noted, “Your presentation impressed us all - especially our panel of judges!”
Cruciani will receive a $300 scholarship award for her first place honors.
An abstract of Cruciani's project work can be found on page 35 of the 2024 GAC Program.
Congratulations, Maria! Well done!
