Going Receives PhD

Taren Going PhotoCongratulations to Taren Going, former PRIME Mathematics Education doctoral student, who anticipated a May 2022 graduation, but successfully defended her dissertation and graduated in Summer 2021!

Taren is a University Distinguished Fellowship recipient. She has served as a member on several PRIME and university graduate student committees, as a graduate student mentor to several prospective and first year doctoral students, and on the planning committee for a 2017 mathematics education conference at MSU.

During her time at MSU, she has taught secondary mathematics methods courses, served as a field instructor for secondary math interns, and has numerous conference presentations and publications.

Taren has worked as a graduate research assistant on the Connected Mathematics Project since 2016, and has proven to be an invaluable member to the team. In fact, so much so, that she accepted a position as Post-doctoral Research Associate with the Connected Mathematics Project.

Taren’s dissertation, defended on July 28th is titled The Relationship Between Productive Disciplinary Engagement and Middle Grades Students' Construction of Written Justifications.

In Spring 2022, PRIME plans to have a formal luncheon and celebration of mathematics education graduates from 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Congratulations, Taren! We are happy that you will be starting a new chapter in your life at MSU!
