2023 Research Sharing Session
PRIME hosted a mathematics education research sharing session in early October. This event originated at the request of PRIME doctoral students for opportunities to learn more about the work of our mathematics education faculty and doctoral students. Over 25 faculty, staff and colleagues in PRIME and other units gathered to share and learn at this second annual mathematics education research sharing session.
Ten groups shared their current mathematics education research in informal poster-type sessions. Groups set up at tables or whiteboards and others moved from one group to another throughout the two half-hour sessions.
A highlight of the afternoon was a celebration of Betty Phillips, recipient of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award. One of Betty’s favorite treats, root beer floats, was enjoyed by those in attendance. Betty will officially receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the NCTM Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 25th in Washington, D.C. Congratulations, Betty!
Due to the early success and popularity of the math ed research sharing event, it has become an annual fall gathering around research. Thanks to all who shared their work and all who attended and participated. Some photos from the event are shared below.
