Burrill Lead Editor of Data and Statistics Education Book

Gail Burrill photoA book Gail Burrill was lead editor for, “Reasoning with Data and Statistical Thinking: An International Perspective”, is in the process of publication by Springer. This book is part of their series Advances in Mathematics Education

The book is derived from selected papers from the Fourteenth International Congress on Mathematical Education Topic Study Group 12, Teaching and Learning Statistics. It describes recent research on curriculum, pedagogy and outreach initiatives from multiple countries.

The focus is on the use of data in the teaching and learning of statistics across grade levels. The book includes with an overview of the status of statistics education and the use of data from seven different countries across the continents and the link between research and practice in those countries.

The editors and publisher note that the book will be a great resource to those interested and involved in the teaching of statistics, curriculum developers, and statistics education researchers, since the book contains specific examples of the research.  In particular, some of the examples are on the ways children learn, the choice and implementation of tasks, and the role of informal inference.

Gail noted, “Special thanks to my co-editors Leandro and Enriqueta, as well as the authors for all of their work, responses to e-mails, and patience with the process and to the reviewers whose comments made each paper so much better.”

The book will be published in early July and is available for pre-order here. Free shipping is provided.
