Graduate Student Post: Claire Lambert

Claire Lambert grad photoPRIME is excited to welcome Claire Lambert as a first-year mathematics education doctoral student. Claire was born in Fort Worth, Texas but she grew up in Plano, Texas.

Claire has moved around a little since growing up in Texas. She has lived in Norman, Oklahoma and Ann Arbor, Michigan. While living in Oklahoma, Claire attended the University of Oklahoma where she received her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education, with a minor in Music. During her time at OU, she was also a part of the drumline. Then she moved to Ann Arbor and attended the University of Michigan, (EEK! Go Green!) where she received her master’s degree in Educational Studies.

Before coming to PRIME, Claire was a high school teacher. “I taught Geometry and Intermediate Algebra at Norman High School. Go T-Wolves!” says Claire.

While at PRIME, Claire is very interested in researching how white teachers take up culturally responsive pedagogy in the mathematics classroom and how it might be harmful to their students. After graduating from PRIME, Claire is unsure of what she will be doing. Although she said, “I imagine myself in an administrative or state-level position around education.”

This summer Claire drove with her two best friends from Ann Arbor to Seattle and then flew to Anchorage, Alaska. She said, “We spent 10 days together and I got to see so much of the United States.”

We are happy to welcome Claire into the PRIME community and are excited to see all that she will accomplish while here! Good luck, Claire!
